Goal! - by Dino Dini
This was a fantastic game. I played it for years on the Commodore Amiga. Dino Dini wrote it. He's the guy who also wrote the Kick Off series for Anco, prior to Goal!
It was very similar to Kick Off, although one great improvement over KO was the heading. In KO it was very basic, but in Goal! it was pretty advanced, you could actually direct your headers in this game, which was unique in football games at the time.
The one thing that spoilt this game though was the "super-shot". Basically once you got through on goal with just the keeper to beat, holding down the joystick button saw your player place the ball either side of the keeper and high into the net, no matter what way you were facing, therefore scoring 99% of the time. It took away the skill factor and made it incredibly easy to master.
